History

Flame was founded on 2nd April 1997 as an English company limited by guarantee. It became a Charity on 2nd June 1997 and H.E. Brazilian Ambassador Rubens A. Barbosa was its first patron.

The founding members were London-based professionals, who believed in the welcoming opportunity that this culturally diverse city would offer to projects that promoted understanding of Latin American culture: Christina Heinl and José Carlos Hadad (bankers), Alexander Faljone (publisher), Graziela Calfat (marketing manager), Sophia Heinl (PR), Marcia Arcuri (historian), Silvana Presta and Mat Heinl (graphic designers), Belinda Sosinowicz (visual artist).

We have also counted on the excellent contribution of
Amelia Alves since 2002 in various sectors within FLAME organization.

Cristina Fuentes from 'Palabras' has been providing FLAME with her expertise and advice in several projects related to literature.
