Trilingual books for 10 year olds - A taste of Amazon

A project with Evoluir Cultural (www.evoluircultural.com.br), ABRIR (www.abrir.org.uk), Stone Crabs (www.stonecrabs.co.uk) and Friends of Latin American Expression (www.flame-uk.com) as partners to promote learning of reading in Portuguese and Spanish to children from Ibero-Latin American- Portuguese African families, bringing parents closer to their children through reading in their mother tongue, helping interaction with peer group by showing interesting themes relevant to all 7 to 10 year olds, building up a library of bi-and tri-lingual books in Portuguese, Spanish and English in the community centres, local libraries and schools.

This programme will be offered to primary schools and the method used involves teaching through play. The trilingual books are the basis for the programme and the first theme will be about the Amazon and its life. Exhibitions, games, theatre workshops, art work and a family party to celebrate the achievements of the programme will be offered to groups of 20 to 30 children.

This project aims to strength the relationship of the children with their families through encouraging reading in the family and also to make easier for the parents to get to know better the school of their children and participate in their school life.

This is a project inside the school and will follow school regulations and all the people involved in the project will have the necessary regulatory qualifications and consents.

This project follows the lines of a very successful project applied in state schools in Sao Paulo, Brazil by Evoluir Cultural. Flame is bringing to this project their experience in exchange programmes with schools and social projects in the UK and Sao Paulo. Stone Crabs has strong links with educational theatre programme for youngsters and ABRIR is the new organisation involved with Portuguese teaching that is working strongly with the Brazilian community.
