What rights, if any does the concept
of citizenship give us? Who is a citizen, and who
is not? This powerful exhibition of contemporary artworks
from major international artists examines the subject
of citizenship in the 21st century. Citizens is a
collaboration between the curators and the artists
from France, England, Italy, Ireland, Canada, the
Czech Republic, Sweden, Russia, China and India, all
of whom engage with different aspects of the worldwide
crisis in citizenship as it manifests itself in different
societies.
The works, some at the cutting edge, others employing
more traditional media, will include photography,
painting, installations, video and digital works,
and a number of the artists will be making new works
specially for the exhibition.
