is
a charity organisation and limited company that aims
to promote understanding of Latin American culture in
the United Kingdom.
As an advocate for Latin American cultural expression,
FLAME initiates and facilitates projects that engage
the public in multicultural activities that educate
and challenge stereotypes.
We take a broad definition of culture that encompasses
a country’s heritage, the arts and other fields of knowledge
(such as social sciences and technology) which convey
the way of life of a people.
We initiate project proposals, and then invite organisations
and professionals to join in partnership to put the
projects together. We also assist individuals and organisations
with fundraising (locally and internationally) and management
support of their projects that translate our vision.
Since its inception in 1997, Flame has focused on creating
strong links with and combining forces with institutions
interested in promoting Latin American culture. Previous
collaborators and sponsors include: the Brazilian Government,
The British Council (Brazil), Cultura Inglesa (Brazil),
Canning House, The Architectural Association – School
of Architecture, The Royal Society of Medicine, King’s
College, schools in South and West London (with a community
of Latin American students), The Royal Borough of Kensington
and Chelsea, Rothschild and Sons Ltd., British Airways,
The Museum of London, The Barbican Art Gallery, among
others.
FLAME has brought to the United Kingdom innovative and
educational projects ranging from photography exhibitions,
films, classical and popular music concerts, dance performances,
theatre productions, play readings to seminars and talks
on contemporary Latin American history, architecture,
and social projects.
